Milton, FL (April 2025) – Santa Rosa Medical Center provided care to thousands of area residents in 2024, with more than 278,000 patient encounters across its network of physician clinics and other outpatient sites of care. In addition to delivering safe, quality, compassionate healthcare, the health system is helping those in need, supporting charitable organizations and contributing to the area economy. In its most recent Community Benefit Report, SRMC’s impact totaled an estimated $222 million in 2024.
“Our work to grow and enhance the medical services we provide is ongoing, as we continuously improve our safety and quality, and support access to healthcare for our community,” said Michael Nordness, chief executive officer of SRMC. “From providing care to our most vulnerable residents to supporting local charitable organizations, we are proud to make an impact on the health, well-being and quality of life in Santa Rosa County.”
Santa Rosa Medical Center’s emergency room provides lifesaving, medically necessary care at nearly 39,000 patient encounters each year, treating all patients regardless of their ability to pay. In 2024, SRMC provided almost $90 million in charity and uncompensated care and provided resources to help patients in need secure medications and medical support devices.
The health system and its employees also support local organizations that make a difference, especially those addressing social determinants of health. Through service projects such as the annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter drive for FoodRaising Friends, Inc. and Feeding the Gulf Coast, and contributions to charitable organizations such as United Way of West Florida, the Santa Rosa County School District, and Healthy Start Coalition, SRMC gives back to the community throughout the year.
To enhance patient care and expand healthcare access, Santa Rosa Medical Center is investing in medical services, facilities and technologies. Capital projects in 2024 totaled over $7.5 million and included a 2,000 square foot addition to its Avalon clinic - creating space for more provider and patient rooms, numerous infrastructure renovations, and upgraded medical equipment for the hospital’s intensive care unit, emergency room, surgical suites, and the labor and delivery floor.
Santa Rosa Medical Group also increased access to care by adding two Urgent Care clinics, one in Pace and one in Milton. Both clinics provide full lab services including x-ray and imaging, and are open extended hours - 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., 7 days a week.
The hospital took steps to enhance local access to specialty services through the recruitment of experienced providers. Santa Rosa Medical Group brought in a new Orthopedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in hip and knee replacements as well as sports medicine to better serve patients of all ages. The Navarre Primary Care location added an Internal Medicine physician who can address a comprehensive range of patients’ health needs.
“We are strategically applying our resources to help area residents have access to the care they need close to home,” said Nordness. “These investments, along with our outstanding medical staff and employees, support our delivery of high quality medical care and services for a positive patient experience.”
SRMC is one of the community’s larger employers with a payroll of $58.6 million. Support for the future healthcare workforce includes training the next generation of medical professionals with the addition of the University of West Florida’s School of Nursing Program and Project Search intern site to the hospital. In addition to supporting the local economy through job creation, Santa Rosa Medical Center paid $4.8 million in taxes in 2024, monies that support local infrastructure and civic resources.
