Santa Rosa Medical Center Uses New Technology to Enhance Maternal and Fetal Safety

MILTON, Fla., - When it comes to childbirth, some parents (first-time or seasoned) may not understand the importance of the technology in their delivery rooms. At Santa Rosa Medical Center, our Labor and Delivery Unit, The Baby Suite, uses an artificial intelligence-based maternal-fetal early warning system called PeriWatch Vigilance to enhance patient safety during labor and delivery. The system continuously monitors maternal vital signs, fetal heart rate, contractions, and labor progression to help clinicians quickly identify any concerning developments for faster intervention.
Santa Rosa Medical Center delivers more than 300 babies each year. Lisa Tucker, M.D., an obstetrician-gynecologist with Santa Rosa Medical Group, attests to how this technology supports our staff in having safe, healthy deliveries for mom and baby.
“Every delivery is unique. This new technology adds another layer of protection throughout the labor process to help our maternity team recognize, prevent and respond to avoidable complications.”
Through pattern recognition, the technology can also pinpoint opportunities for overall improvement based on consolidated data from multiple births. As the maternity team reviews trends and identifies areas where improvement is possible, our hospital can use that information to develop protocols that further increase safety and may lead to better outcomes for moms and babies.

With the baby's health and safety as our top priority, SRMC has advanced technology in place on the unit that will automatically lock the doors if a baby gets too close to them.
At SRMC, maternity patients and their families can expect individualized birth experiences. Our facility has five private labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum suites (LDRPs) and experienced nursing staff to care for mom and baby. Our unit is now offering lactation services to moms looking for additional support on their breastfeeding journey.
