Santa Rosa Medical Group Provider Earns Obesity Medicine Certification

MILTON, Fla., - For some patients, weight loss is no easy task. However, when patients can lose weight, they begin to see improvements in many areas of their health.
Veronica Holbrook, M.D., a family medicine physician at Santa Rosa Medical Group, is improving the quality of care she provides to her patients looking to lose weight. Earlier this year, Dr. Holbrook became board-certified in obesity medicine and is one of 350 American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) diplomats in the state of Florida. Holbrook is also certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.
“I pursued this extra training because I wanted to help my patients have better control over their chronic conditions or improve their quality of life,” Holbrook shared. “Unfortunately, there is a lot of bad advice and expensive placebos on the market today. While there is no one size fits all solution, I enjoy helping my patients find a method that works for them, combining lifestyle changes and, when appropriate, weight loss medication.”
Obesity prevalence in adults in Santa Rosa County is 4% higher than the state average at 30.6%, according to the U.S. News & World Report 2021 Healthiest Communities rankings. Overweight is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or higher; obesity is defined as a BMI of 30 or higher.
The ABOM serves the public and the field of obesity medicine by maintaining standards for assessing and credentialing physicians. Certification as an ABOM diplomat signifies specialized knowledge in the practice of obesity medicine and distinguishes a physician as having achieved competency in obesity care.
“It’s important for people to put their health first and to feel comfortable getting the care they need,” Holbrook explained. “The last few years have been difficult and I want to help people meet their healthcare goals.”
For those struggling to lose weight and keep it off, Santa Rosa Medical Center has a Weight Loss Surgery program that offers surgical options when traditional dieting and exercising have failed. It has received recognition from The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement and has Blue Distinction Center+ designation.
Dr. Holbrook is accepting new patients at her office in the Woodbine Medical Park in Pace. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Holbrook or another primary care provider, visit SantaRosaMedicalGroup.com.
