MILTON, Fla., (Jan. 4) - Santa Rosa Medical Center (SRMC) employees are helping to warm up those in need in Santa Rosa County by collecting socks for “Socktober.” SRMC participated in collaboration with Morrison Healthcare as part of the worldwide “Socktober” program which encourages donations for those encountering homelessness.
“The generosity of our staff and the community is heartwarming,” says Amy Faulk, director of food services. “Our hospital staff does what we can to help those living and working in Santa Rosa. This event was another opportunity for our team to show compassion and kindness.”
SRMC collected 200 pairs of new socks to donate to Santa Rosa County Schools. Driven by Faulk, donations went to the clothing closets at schools in the City of Milton.
“Santa Rosa County District Schools appreciates the generosity and support of the employees at Santa Rosa Medical Center. Currently, the school district has over 700 children experiencing homelessness. The donation of new socks will help provide much-needed clothing to these students in need,” shares Superintendent, Dr. Karen Barber.
Socktober began in October 2011, by Brad Montague, after learning socks are rarely donated to homeless shelters. As a result, Brad decided to do something. He recorded himself singing “Happy Socktober!” as he handed out pairs of socks to people on the streets. He shared these videos on social media. It wasn’t long before Socktober became a global option to drive donations to local shelters.
