Alumni invited back for 70th Anniversary Celebration
1/6/2023
Santa Rosa Medical Center (SRMC) is celebrating 70 years of providing healthcare services to Santa Rosa County and will host an alumni luncheon for past employees in mid-January.
“After seven decades, it’s amazing to know Santa Rosa Medical Center continues to provide the community with healthcare services they need – closer to home,” shared Justin Serrano, interim chief executive officer. “We pride ourselves in being this community’s hospital and we want to celebrate this achievement with the people that have helped keep us going.”
Santa Rosa Hospital first opened on Stewart Street in Milton and the first patients were admitted in December 1952.
In 1951, the hospital was created by a group of business leaders and citizens that formed the County Hospital Board and applied for a certificate of organization before construction. The hospital was initially chartered as a non-profit facility and managed by Santa Rosa County officials. The hospital expanded several times in the 1960s to a 100-bed hospital, but due to growing needs, the hospital Board of Trustees and County Commissioners oversaw the construction of the current facility on Berryhill Road.
The hospital’s name was changed to Santa Rosa Medical Center in 1985 and continues to expand, providing numerous services to those living and working in and around Santa Rosa County. The hospital now has a 21-bed, all private 24-hour emergency department - equipped with specialized rooms and equipment. In 2019, SRMC opened Pace’s first and only freestanding emergency department (FSED) on Woodbine Road. The FSED has 8 private beds along with radiology and lab services onsite. Santa Rosa Medical Group employs 35 physicians and allied health professionals in a variety of specialties and at multiple clinics in Milton, Navarre and Pace to meet the needs of the community.
“We remain one of the top non-government employers in Santa Rosa County,” Serrano explained. “We hear it every day, our staff and volunteers are the reasons patients continue to use our hospital and clinic locations and we want to celebrate this milestone with them.”
SRMC will provide activities for current staff and volunteers January 16 - 20, and host a luncheon for alumni staff on Friday, Jan. 20 at 11:30 a.m. in the Locklin Education Building.
Those able to attend the luncheon should contact the marketing coordinator before Jan. 16. To RSVP, call (850) 626-5370 or send an email here.
